Projects

These projects exist to protect our best thinking in places where it is most at risk.

In demanding roles and complex systems, attention is gradually pulled away from what matters by urgency, convention, and performance pressure. Over time, this favours activity and quick certainties over judgment, authorship, and responsibilities to think more deeply about what matters.

The projects here are designed as practices. They create conditions in which attention can widen and re-orient, thinking can deepen, and people can remain intelligent inside what they do.

They are best approached slowly, and adapted for your own use. Their value compounds through repeated engagement rather than one-time use, and I suggest a commitment to an ongoing practice by individuals and organisations who understand the risks of paying attention to all the wrong things.

Performance Signal

Performance Signal is a practice for orienting yourself intelligently and directing your attention deliberately.

It is a monthly, one-hour practice that builds situational awareness and protects against the gradual slippage into well-meaning but corrosive efficiencies, conveniences, and unspoken compromises.

The practice is informed by my work in organisations, where intelligence is most often lost not through bad intent, but through speed, conformity, and the quiet sidelining of inconvenient truths. This is the terrain in which functional stupidity takes hold if it is not actively challenged.

Performance Signal creates a regular moment to step back, regain perspective, and pay attention to what is actually happening, before misalignment hardens into habit.

The practice compounds monthly.

Thinking Bots

Thinking Bots are tools for challenging and deepening thinking when familiar patterns no longer produce insight.

They are most useful at the edge of your own perspective, when professional habits, assumptions, or consensus thinking begin to limit what you can see. Each bot is built from a specific method, such as structured debate, reframing, or perspective shifting, and introduces intelligent counter-positions from outside your usual domain.

I use these tools as part of my own thinking practice. They are designed to change what you notice and how you attend to a problem.

You can copy and adapt the bots freely in your preferred large language models. Forthcoming, early 2026
